Frequently asked questions

What is UK261/EU261 and how does it protect me?

UK261/EU261 (EU Regulation 261/2004) is a law that gives airline passengers the right to financial compensation when their flight is significantly delayed, cancelled, or they are denied boarding. It applies to all flights departing from an EU or UK airport, and to flights arriving in the EU/UK on an EU/UK-based airline.

How much compensation can I claim?

Compensation is fixed by law based on flight distance: £220 for flights up to 1,500km, £350 for flights between 1,500–3,500km, and £520 for flights over 3,500km. You must have arrived 3+ hours late at your final destination.

Which flights are covered?

Any flight departing from an EU or UK airport (regardless of airline), and flights arriving into the EU/UK operated by an EU or UK-based airline. Extraordinary circumstances — like severe weather or air traffic control strikes — may reduce or remove entitlement.

How long do I have to claim?

In the UK you have up to 6 years from the date of your flight to claim. In the EU, time limits vary by country. Claim sooner rather than later — records are easier to obtain and airlines are more cooperative with recent disruptions.

What documents do I need?

Your booking confirmation or e-ticket (showing the flight number and date) is the most important document. A boarding pass and any correspondence from the airline about the disruption also helps. FlightHero handles all paperwork and airline communications on your behalf.

What does FlightHero charge?

No win, no fee. If your claim is unsuccessful, you pay nothing. If we win, we charge a 10% success fee — approximately 3x cheaper than the industry average of 35%.
